Maneki Neko
The Maneki Neko (beckoning cat) is a centuries old Japanese figurine which is believed to bring good luck to the owner. Traditionally figurines were ceramic and modelled on a Japanese bobtail cat. Nowadays Maneki Neko come in all shapes and sizes.
There are a number of legends that purport to explain the origin of Maneki Neko. We will look at some of these in future blog posts. For now, what is important is that these cats are seen as being harbingers of good fortune, and regardless of the amount of luck they bring, make attractive souvenirs and decorative pieces for the home.
